Portfolios are “visual résumés.” Students and parents select items that showcase documentation of the students’ in-school and out-of-school achievements in these key areas:

Portfolios demonstrate students' progress toward meeting their educational, career, and personal goals.

How do Portfolios Benefit Students?

Portfolios build students' self-esteem by highlighting individual accomplishments that promote them.

When are Portfolios the most Helpful?

Portfolios aid the students when applying for jobs and college placement/scholarships.

Sample Portfolio Documents

Academic Skills

  • Tests, essays or research projects
  • Report cards or transcripts
  • List of computer software used and sample of each
  • Bibliography of books read

Teamwork Skills

  • Photographs, reports or evaluations of group projects in school
  • Recognition of membership in clubs or groups
  • Participation in team-building events (e.g. Ropes Course)
  • Documents from on-the-job training or internship

Personal Management Skills

  • Career plans
